EMS educators have the dual responsibility of teaching technology and teaching with technology. The conversation on Episode 51 of the EMSEduCast begins with a discussion about using e-readers like the Kindle and the iPad. Then Greg, Bill, and Rob with comments and questions from the live audience talked about the need for educators to teach computer skills, educator comfort and anxiety with teaching and technology, student access to computers and information, and the growing presence of social media as a teaching opportunity, but also a distraction.

Dr. Mickey Eisenberg, an EMS medical director, long-time researcher of survival factors from sudden cardiac arrest, and author of Resuscitate!: How Your Community Can Improve Survival from Sudden Cardiac Arrest was our guest on Episode 45. In this episode we conclude our three part between semester examination of sudden cardiac arrest and the role of trainers and educators to understand the problem and increase survival. Episode 43 (journal club 2) was a review of research. Episode 44 was a discussion about how to prepare and engage students as team leaders during cardiac arrest calls.

This week the discussion is about the role of students during field training, preparing students to be team leaders, and how to precept students during field training. The discussion specifically focuses on making sure students are ready to team lead if they have a cardiac arrest patient during their field training. Bruce Nepon, author of Field Training Officer: Tips and Techniques, shares his experiences and gives recommendations for best practices.
