Technology in Paramedic Program Direction: Episode 124

Greg, Rob, and Bill are joined by David Blevins (blevinsds@roanestate.edu) tonight to discuss how to harness and use technology in the EMS classroom.  David is currently the Paramedic Program Director for Roane State Community College in East Tennessee.

David has past experience as a firefighter and paramedic with the City of Knoxville Fire Department. In addition has served as an Emergency Manager with the Tennessee Air NationalGuard.  David holds a bachelor degree with dual concentration in Fire Service Administration and Fire Prevention Technology and David is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Disaster and Emergency Management.

David also serves as a board member for the Tennessee EMS Education association (first year), and research committee chair, members of the conference committee, and charter member of the Editorial Board for the National Association of EMS Educators www.naemse.org.  David is also a columnist for EMS Grants Help.

Presenting about Technology: Episode 117

In this episode of the EMSEduCast we discuss Bill’s upcoming presentations to Kansas EMS educators. Bill shares the session objectives and receives ideas for topics, tools, and resources to share, demonstrate, and have attendees practice during the session. We are joined in the conversation by Kyle Bates.

  • Be able to build effective media and materials to support the message.
  • Identify technologies for use in distributive based EMS education.
  • Identify technologies for use in classroom based EMS education.

We also discuss the death of Steve Jobs and his impact, as well as the impact of Apple products, on our personal  educations and EMS education in general. The death of Steve Jobs was announced just before we recorded this show on 10/5/11.

Teaching EMS in Qatar: Episode 116

Tonight Rob and Bill co-host of the EMS Educast are joined by returning guest Al Santos (alsantos@acpcollege.org).  Al has just returned from five years in the Middle East where he was an Instructional Coordinator for Contract Training for Heath Science at the College of the North Atlantic in Qatar.  Al has prior experience as an Advanced Care Paramedic in Toronto, Canada and as an EMS Educator.  Al fills us in on what his overall experience was like in Qatar and what he is doing now.

Staying Up to Date – NAEMSE, AHA 2010, Scope of Practice: Episode 115

Tonight Greg, Rob, and Bill co-host of the EMS Educast are joined by Stephen Rahm.  Stephen began his career in EMS in 1985. He is a paramedic for a rural EMS system in South Central Texas. As an author, he has ten books published to his credit; he has served as a contributing author, reviewer, and consultant for numerous others. One of his passions is writing test items—specifically related to the field of EMS. Stephen is also a certified EMS instructor and is a faculty member in the paramedic program at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Tonight we discussed the process of revising existing EMS texts to follow the new EMS education standards, as well as how the new standards will affect EMS education in general.  Incorporating 2010 AHAguidelines into existing test banks, as well as the JBTest Prep online program.  Also a host of other topics were discussed, please enjoy.
