In this episode of the EMSEduCast we talk with Dr. Jon Studnek about EMS research. We specifically discuss research he has helped conduct related to cardiac arrest, airway management, and EMS education. We focus in on his recent publication, The Association Between Emergency Medical Services Field Performance Assessed by High-fidelity Simulation and the Cognitive Knowledge of Practicing Paramedics.

Jonathan R. Studnek, PhD

Jon completed his PhD in Epidemiology at the Ohio State University in 2008. Prior to that he was a paramedic in Albuquerque, NM and was a research fellow at the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.  Jon is the Director of Prehospital Research and works closely with the Mecklenburg EMS Agency. Currently, he serves as the chair of the research committee for the National Association of EMS Physicians. His current research interests revolve around improving patient care in the prehospital setting. Current topics include out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, acute myocardial infarction, and the role of simulation in EMS education.

AHA Courses Spanning the Globe: Episode 129

Bobby Wales (bobby.wales@heart.org), is a International Training Consultant for the American Heart Association andjoins Greg, Rob, and Bill on tonight’s EMS Educast.  Mr. Wales manages the AHA’s training network and Regional Faculty involving 310 Training Centers in over 70 countries. He speaks on resuscitation science and training at conferences and workshops around the world. Bobby has been in EMS for 11 years and was a paramedic and the Training Coordinator for Pickens County EMS in Pickens, SC prior to working for the AHA. Bobby also serves on the NAEMSE’s International Committee.  Listen in on this very interesting discussion teaching AHA outside of the United States.

Combat Medic to Paramedic: Episode 128

Darrell DeMartino (demard@lcc.edu), Senior Instructor/Designer at Lansing Community College joins Greg and Bill on tonight’s EMS Educast.  Darrell has designed an EMS program to transition military medics to civilian paramedics.
